The Grand Illusion Of Immigration

The Illusionary Allure of Immigration Grand Bargains
Report and Panelists Analyze 3 Blue Ribbon Task Force Reports

WASHINGTON (December 10, 2010) -- After the recent elections, momentum for “comprehensive immigration reform” has slowed considerably, but it will come back. When that effort begins again, it will be shaped in part by the deliberations and recommendations of three blue ribbon immigration panels that have published their reports over the past several years.

The Center for Immigration Studies will publish a detailed examination of the reports of the three task forces in question, convened by the Migration Policy Institute, the Council on Foreign Relations, and jointly by the Brookings Institution and Duke University. The report, 'The Illusionary Allure of Immigration 'Grand Bargains': An Analysis of Blue Ribbon Task Forces,' is authored by Center Fellow Stanley A. Renshon, a professor of political science and coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Program in the Psychology of Social and Political Behavior at the City University of New York Graduate Center. The report will be available online at www.cis.org on December 16.

The report will be released Thursday, December 16, at 9:30 a.m. at the National Press Club, 14th & F streets, N.W. Commenting on the report will be Hans von Spakovsky, Senior Legal Fellow at the Heritage Foundation, and Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies.
